Seeking 2D/3D Freelance Artist for Climate Justice Video Game
A project by Anticiplay
About the project
We are creating a climate courthouse game that challenges the institutions who contribute to our increasing environmental crisis. We’re currently seeking artists to join our team so this game becomes a reality. We are a small team of academics, game designers, and passionate climate activists.
This game draws inspiration from others like Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney, Paradise Killer, and Aviary Attorney, where the main character investigates and litigates climate cases against big corporations and institutions. The tone would mix farcical comedy with intense court theatrics to create engaging storylines with deep, real-world meaning. Our overall goal with this game is twofold:
- To let people learn the basic ethical, legal, and societal considerations and dynamics around using court cases to force climate action
- To generate financial support and awareness for real-world climate court cases
Real-world climate cases, such the successful lawsuit against Shell to divest from fossil fuels, sparked the need for this project. We see an opportunity to support more cases like these in their efforts to drive climate action. This project will involve a crowdfunding campaign to help fund the game and support the legal costs for climate cases.
Of course, a game project like this needs support of all kinds. It needs game designers, programmers, and artists. It needs experts and those with interest or experience in sustainability and climate change. So, here’s the call to action! We’re currently seeking:
2D or 3D artists who will
- Collaborate on the game art style setting and the concept design of the art world view in the early stage, as well as the later 2D/3D main characters/scenes design.
- Design characters, environments, props, illustrations, UI elements, iconography, and more.
- Work alongside the team to brainstorm ideas.
- Have experience or affinity with the subject matter as a plus.
We welcome applications from all over the world. We embrace diversity and equality and welcome applications from people of all backgrounds. Applicants are welcome to conduct this work remotely. However, we will not be able to support relocation.
This work will be paid as a freelance position. If you are interested in this project, please send your resume, portfolio, and rates to vacancies@climatecourtgame.com. And spread the word to people you think might be interested in this project!
